SUMMARY:BusinessWest’s 12th Annual Difference Makers
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, Sept. 24\, 2020\nWe have moved to a virtual event concept. Ticket sales are currently closed. \nCelebrating the 2020 Class \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBack in late 2008\, BusinessWest conceived a new recognition program. \nIt was called Difference Makers because\, well\, that’s the best way to describe those who would be honored. No matter what their career or field or passion — and\, over the years\, they have been myriad — the one common thread would be making a difference in the community. \nOur goal was\, and remains\, to show the many ways in which an individual or group can make a difference\, and suffice to say this goal has been met — as you’ll find out\, once again\, as you read the stories generated by the 12th such class of honorees. \nThe 12th annual Difference Makers gala will take place on Thursday\, March 19 at the Log Cabin in Holyoke. Tickets cost $75. To reserve a spot\, e-mail peters@businesswest.com or visit businesswest.com. Difference Makers is sponsored by Burkhart Pizzanelli\, Royal\, P.C.\, and TommyCar Auto Group\, while the Tom Cosenzi Driving for the Cure Charity Golf Tournament\, MHA\, and United Way of Pioneer Valley are partners. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2020 DIFFERENCE MAKERS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristopher ‘Monte’ Belmonte\nDJ at WRSI the River Radio \nHis March is Changing\nThe Conversation\non Food Insecurity \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIra Bryck\nConsultant and Former Executive Director of the Family Business Center of Pioneer Valley \nHe’s Helped Create\nFun\, Imaginative\nLearning Experiences \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSandy Cassanelli\nCEO of Greeno Supply \nShe’s Fighting to Find a Cure for Metastatic Breast Cancer \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDianne\nFuller Doherty\nRetired Director of the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center \nShe’s Retired … but Not from Her Role as a Difference Maker \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRonn Johnson\nPresident and CEO of Martin Luther King Jr. Family Services Inc. \nThis Community Leader\nHas Tackled Many Roles\nWith a Sense of Purpose \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSteve Lowell\nPresident and CEO of\nMonson Savings Bank \nGiving Back Has Always Been a Big Part of His Life — and His Work \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRick’s Place\nThis Unique Nonprofit Provides Support\, Light in the Darkest of Times \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2020 Difference Makers Sponsors: \n \n \n  \n \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \nPay it Forward Non-Profit Partners \n \n \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Family Outreach of Amherst Turns 30
DESCRIPTION:CHD’s Family Outreach of Amherst (FOA) marks thirty years of service to Amherst’s most vulnerable families with a reception and presentation of the Helen Mitchell Community Service award to Tony Maroulis\, Executive Director of External Relations and University Events at UMass Amherst. Catered by award-winning UMass Dining\, the reception will be held Wednesday\, February 5 from 5:30 – 7:30 at the Eric Carle Museum. \nBeginning with just 6 families in 1990\, last year FOA helped nearly 600 struggling families deal with such issues as homelessness\, domestic violence\, physical and mental health\, immigration\, substance abuse\, and trauma. Working with all members of the family\, FOA helps them gain access to the services they need\, find educational and employment opportunities\, and develop the life skills they need to not only to survive\, but to thrive. “We are proud to help our clients who are important members of our community gain access to the services they need as they learn to advocate for themselves in order to raise happy\, healthy children\,” said FOA Director Laura Reichsman. \n2020 will feature many events to celebrate this milestone. The kickoff reception will be followed by the Jeanne Juster Literacy Fair in May\, the 17th annual “Light Up the Night!” benefit dinner and auction on June 12 and “Warm Up the Night\,” a strolling culinary extravaganza on October 14. \nThe Helen Mitchell Community Service Award is given to an individual or group who best exemplifies a spirit of selfless dedication to helping improve the quality of life for families in the Amherst community. Maroulis is being recognized for the support and leadership he has shown towards FOA and human services\, both in his current position at UMass and at his job as Executive Director of the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce.

SUMMARY:Board Development: Bored to Brilliant – Better Meetings
DESCRIPTION:According to a recent Avast survey\, the US professional spends an average of 61 hours per month in meetings and considers more than 50% of them to have been a waste of time (that’s 15 wasted days per year.) There are a number of simple and easily implemented tactics your organization can employ so that your board will consider yours among the BEST meetings they participate in.\nIn this workshop we will examine the conditions that work against effective board meetings. We will provide practical tools that you and your colleagues can put to use immediately. We will help you get you from “having a quorum” to hosting dynamic and effective meetings.\nThis workshop is designed for organizational senior leadership and those responsible for the coordination of meetings and events \n$150 – 1 person $100 – 2 people* With 2 people attending\, it breaks down to $50 per person. $75 – 3-5 people* (must include one board member) With 5 people attending\, that breaks down to just $15 per person! *Additional individuals must be from the same organization! We recommend executive leadership\, development and program staff and board members attend. YES\, you read that right. Three to five people from your organization would only cost your agency $75 to attend a half day workshop!!!
