From the Editor

The cover of this year’s Book of Lists, the annual Resource Guide
produced by BusinessWest, is a modern take — by our long-time
Art Director Mike Nasuti — of a 1836 painting by Thomas Cole,
called “View from Mount Holyoke, Northampton, Massachusetts, after a
Thunderstorm, commonly known as The Oxbow.” That’s quite a mouth-
ful — and quite a striking scene with which most residents of the Pio-
neer Valley are well familiar.
You’ll find a lot of contrasts between classic and modern in the pages
of this guide as well — businesses, nonprofits, and destinations that
have been around for longer than a century (in some cases much lon-
ger), juxtaposed against enterprises that put down roots only in the past
few years, evidence that the reputation of Western Mass. for entrepre-
neurship and innovation is still very much justified.
What they form is a rich tapestry — one made up of thousands of
organizations throughout the region — providing important informa-
tion on area businesses, nonprofits, and institutions. Together, these
snapshots convey the size, strength, and diversity of this region’s busi-
ness community and how, as a group, they contribute to the still-vibrant,
always-changing economy of Western Mass.
It’s a tapestry that we showcase in many ways throughout each year
at BusinessWest — through stories and photos on the pages of our
biweekly magazine, through the people and organizations we honor
at our recognition events, through modern channels like our website,
social media, and podcast, and, of course, through the copious informa-
tion contained in this annual guide, which has proven to be a valuable
resource for individuals and business owners alike.
It’s a living document of sorts, reflecting, with each annual edition,
a raft of changes in the economic landscape as businesses open, grow,
move, shift gears, change leadership, and, yes, sometimes shut their
doors. As companies throughout Western Mass. continue to grow,
evolve, and serve their customers, we will continue to serve them as
well. That’s the real message to be gleaned from the pages to follow.
We urge you to make full use of the information this guide contains
(it is also available as a flipbook at www.businesswest.com) to both
grow your company and grasp the breadth and depth of the local busi-
ness community.
Special thanks goes to our sponsors and advertisers, whose support
makes it possible to publish this important resource.
