What is naloxone?
Naloxone (Narcan) is a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in minutes. Thanks to a Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Regional Grant, we are offering free, in-person training to the public to help individuals learn how to safely administer this critical intervention.
Why is this important?
The opioid epidemic continues to impact communities across Massachusetts and Connecticut. Opioid overdose emergencies can happen anytime, and knowing how to recognize the signs and administer naloxone can save lives.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
In this training, you will learn to:
• Recognize the signs and symptoms of opioid overdose
• Understand how naloxone (Narcan) works
• Handle intense situations and administer naloxone effectively
AVAILABLE TRAINING:
• Free 1-hour live seminars for your group or organization
• Free 1-hour Continuing Education (CE) program for pharmacists,
nurses, and licensed mental health counselors
• Free 10 minute trainings
• Receive a free naloxone kit, in person or by mail

Dr. Mellisa Mattison, Clinical Profes- sor of Pharmacy Practice and Assistant Dean of Experiential Affairs at Western New England University, has over 25 years of experience providing care in the community. Her commitment to public health and advocacy has led her to offer evidence-based interventions to save lives.
