Brendan Greeley Charts a Course for the Family Business

Growing up, Brendan Greeley never thought much about going to work for his father at the commercial real-estate firm he started the same year
Brendan was born — the R.J. Greeley Co. But as his undergraduate work was wrapping up at St. Michael’s College in
Vermont, his father, Robert Greeley, asked him to start thinking about it.
And there was a lot to think about. Brendan didn’t really know much about this business, or business in general, and his college work didn’t exactly prepare him for that industry.
“I was a sociology and anthropology major with a minor in religion. I was a singer in a band ... and I never really thought much about my career.”

After telling his father he’d think about his invitation, Brendan sought the advice of one of his uncles, who told him, among other things, that commercial real estate was a good business for meeting ... well, all kinds of people in many different busi- nesses, exposure that could lead to differ- ent types of career opportunities.
