Carla Cosenzi and Hampshire County Sheriff Patrick Cahillane show off the haul from the 2022 No Shave November campaign, which raised more than $8,000 for Dana-Farber.
“When we support different charities that our employees are really engaged with or have a connection with, we have a better turnout with our employees, which is what we’re really looking for,” she said. “We have more power in numbers and a better chance of supporting that charity.”
Examples of this include the annual Hot Chocolate Run, staged to support Safe Passage, a Hampden County organization addressing domestic violence — TommyCar has a large team that supports that initiative — and, of course, No Shave November.
Meanwhile, there are other benefits to giving back as well, she said.
“Not only does it help our employees have really good morale and engagement, but it also gives them networking opportunities in the community, and it helps them build new business relationships,” she told BusinessWest. “Which is great, because the backbone of what we do is helping
to support the local community and local businesses.”
Rewards Program
Cosenzi said her best advice to other business owners and managers is to find their own ways to get their teams involved
in the community, align the chosen charities with the interests of their employees, and, in a word, make giving back fun.
“We match employee donations for things like No Shave November, in our newsletter we share success stories, and we recognize and reward the employees who go above and beyond,” she said, adding that such efforts only create more momentum for getting involved.
And giving back. BW
“We remove all the barriers for any child who has any physical, emotional,
or mental challenges. We have children
in wheelchairs, children in walkers ... everyone gets an opportunity to play.”
