WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
Our work is about the power of a community working together to create opportunity and improve lives. Through strong partnerships with volunteers, donors, local business, government and nonprofit organizations, United Way allows us to accomplish together what none of us can do alone.
We believe that a strong future should be reachable for all children and that everyone should have the tools and knowledge
to find long-term financial wellness. Moreover, we believe that no one in our community should have to question where they will sleep tonight, how they will stay warm, or how they will make food for their family last through the next paycheck.
For more than 94 years, United Way of Pioneer Valley has been recognized as our area’s premier fund-raiser, but United Way doesn’t just raise money. Today’s United Way is a focused, results-driven system that works year-round to change community conditions and create lasting solutions. It not only impacts our community today, but builds the foundation for a vibrant tomorrow.
GIVING OPPORTUNITIES
Giving to the United Way helps to strengthen and expand an interconnected network of local programs, groups and organizations that are changing lives. Together we promote a thriving, caring region where all of our neighbors have opportunities to realize
their human potential, live self-sufficient lives, and contribute to the vitality of our region.
Giving through the United Way is smart, easy, and ensures your dollars will address the most critical local needs. Your support makes a tremendous impact every hour, every day — on children and families, veterans, seniors and countless neighbors.
There are many ways to contribute to the United Way: through payroll deduction, individual gifts, major gifts, event sponsorship, corporate gifts, in-kind goods and services, planned gifts, endowment gifts, and online philanthropy.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Days of Caring: 750 Volunteers + 35 companies + 39 nonprofits = one awesome day of giving back. It’s the largest day of volunteering in the Pioneer Valley, and it’s the perfect chance to help a nonprofit in need of a few extra hands. It brings together more than 700 volunteers to complete a combined total of 4,290 volunteer hours throughout the Pioneer Valley!
Days of Services: Can’t make the Annual Day of Caring? The United Way will connect you to with another volunteer day that works for your company’s schedule.
Stuff the Bus: United Way of Pioneer Valley, in partnership with Peter Pan Bus Co., collects school supplies to fill more than 2,000 backpacks for children who are homeless in Springfield, Holyoke, Chicopee, West Springfield, South Hadley, and Westfield.
VITA Tax Prep: UWPV works with local organizations to support free tax assistance services to residents of the region. Last year, the program completed more than 5,000 tax returns; 57 volunteers participated, donating more than 3,060 hours of time and skill; and $2.5 million in tax credits were recalculated into the economy.
