Catholic Women in the United States: Values and Vision

April 24, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Elms College will hold the inaugural Rev. Hugh Crean Annual Distinguished Lecture at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, in Veritas Auditorium. A reception will follow.

This year’s featured speaker will be Springfield, MA, native Sr. Mary Johnson, SNDdeN, Ph.D., whose talk will be titled “Catholic Women in the United States: Values and Vision.” Johnson is a distinguished professor of sociology and religious studies at Trinity Washington University in Washington, D.C. She holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in sociology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Emmanuel College.

This lecture series honors the legacy of Fr. Crean, who passed away in 2015. He was a pastor, professor, theologian and advisor who devoted his life to the pastoral care and education of thousands of Catholics in the Diocese of Springfield. He taught theology at Elms from 1973 to 1979.
