Springfield Museums Joins Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day Live!

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Museums will once again open their doors free of charge on Saturday, Sept. 26 as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 11th annual Museum Day Live!

On that day, the Springfield Museums and a host of others across the U.S. will emulate the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington-based facilities by offering free admission to those who download a Museum Day Live! ticket.

Inclusive by design, the event represents the Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone. Last year’s event drew more than 400,000 participants, and this year’s event is expected to attract more museum patrons than ever before.

“We’re honored to join with the Smithsonian and other prestigious institutions across the nation in this worthwhile effort,” said Kay Simpson, interim president of the Springfield Museums, adding, “the multi-faceted nature of our collections, from priceless works of fine art to exhibits on science and transportation history, mirrors the diversity on display at the Smithsonian’s many facilities.”

To participate, visitors must download and present a Museum Day Live! ticket, which is valid for free entrance for up to two people at participating venues on Sept. 26 only. The ticket may be downloaded at smithsonian.com/museumday. One ticket per household, per e-mail address, is permitted.
