‘One Puerto Rico’ Project Lands at HCC Today

HOLYOKE — Representatives from six Puerto Rican universities will hold a mini college fair on the Holyoke Community College (HCC) campus today, Oct. 1, as part of a broad initiative to recruit community-college transfer students from New York and Massachusetts who want to complete their bachelor’s degrees in Puerto Rico.

The event will run from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on the first floor of HCC’s Frost and Donahue buildings with officials from the University of Puerto Rico, Interamericana University, Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, Carlos Albizu University, Ana G. Mendez University, and Polytechnica University.

As part of the One Puerto Rico project, Jorge Haddock, newly appointed president of the University of Puerto Rico and former dean of the UMass Boston School of Management, is leading the contingent of delegates from Puerto Rican universities on a six-day tour of higher-education institutions in the Northeast. HCC is the group’s only stop in Massachusetts.
